JAMIE HERELL: MISS EARTH 2014
by Antonio C. Antonio
December 1, 2014
Last Saturday (November 29, 2014), a Filipina beauty from
Cebu was crowned Miss Earth 2014 at the University of the Philippines (UP)
Diliman Theater in Quezon City. Miss
Philippines, Jamie Herell, bested other contestants from all over the world
with her grace and beauty. But more than
Jamie’s beauty was her intelligence and environmental smarts.
Jamie Herell was asked by contest/pageant judge Olivier
Ochanine (of the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra) this question: “If you win
tonight’s crown, what will you do to help slow down or reverse the effects of
global warming?” And Jamie answered:
“Global warming has been known for being a very long, overdue issue. That is why if I am crowned tonight, I will
use my title to inspire others to help our environment and we will start with
the kids because the kids are the people of tomorrow. If we teach them, they will also help the
community. That’s what I will do if I’m
crowned Miss Earth tonight.”
Miss Earth 2014 outlined the important aspects on how to
establish a stronger and sustainable measure to mitigate climate change. Her reference to (a) “inspire others to help
our environment”… her awareness of the duties and responsibilities of her title,
(b) “very long, overdue issue”… her acknowledgement of the importance and
necessity to seriously look into our environmental issues and concerns, (c)
“use my title”… her plan to employ a more structured manner in dealing with
environmental matters, (d) “we will start with kids because the kids are the
people of tomorrow”… her concern for the future generations, and (e) “they
(kids) will also help the community”… her use of the participatory approach in
environmental programs and projects.
Having said all these, Jamie Herell has covered the vital aspects of
environmentalism.
The Pro-EARTH Crusaders wish you luck. Thank you Jamie Herell: Miss Earth 2014.
