ENVIRONMENT AND THE ARTS

The most common means of environmental expression is through
visual arts. I am sure most people have
seen countless numbers of photos, drawings, paintings, murals and billboards of
beautiful landscapes and scenery depicting beautiful Mother Earth.
Music, as part of the arts, has also contributed a number of
songs about the beauty of Mother Earth.
Some songs also trumpet calls to care for Mother Nature. I was blessed to have composed one such song…
a pro-environment song of appeal from the future generations to the present
generation to take care of Mother Earth.
It is a rather unique song because of the genre I chose to
use… bossa nova-rumba. It should be
noted that the preferred musical genre for most environmental advocacy songs
are ballad, folk and pop… but not bossa nova and/or rumba. This should be an interesting musical piece
to watch and listen to. To listen to a “jamming”
music video of the song (performed by Ms. Ella Cruz), please click on this

You may also want to listen to a sound studio version of this
song (sung by my daughter, Neki Antonio) by clicking on this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=78mbTsMEJxQ. This particular version the song “Masdan Ang
Bukas Ko” took several hours to complete since the original guitar
accompaniment had to be overlaid (one at a time) with several other instruments
such as djembe, bass guitar and chimes. This process somewhat replicated a
full-band sound although there was only one instrumentalist… poor little me.
This song is a simple testimony to the possibility of interfacing
environment and the arts.
Just my
little thoughts…
